This the first drop from The Glad Hatters, a group of guys that understand and know this space very well, and it shows in the quality of their first run of products. It is clear that they paid attention to the little things and made sure that came through.

For the cap, they worked with a small haymaker in Europe. It’s a family business and the family has been doing this for over 100 years. What does this mean? It means they know how to build a high quality cap, how to size it perfectly, and how to choose the best materials. Ultimately what this means is that you can expect a really nice product.

That’s what I received. The patchwork top of the cap is made of three different kinds of panels. One panel is a black material that feels almost like corduroy, but somehow different- there 3 of those. The second material is the flannel material featuring the plaid from the shirt- there are 3 of those. The third panel is a smooth material that looks stoney gray with flecks of gold- there are 2 of those. I like all 3 panel types- it accomplishes a great coordinating look without being overly matchy-matchy- which I like. The cap and flannel clearly belong together, but they are not exactly the same. The only thing I don’t like as much is how the panels are spaced, but it is mainly because I need things perfectly balance and the 3-3-2 combo leaves an odd combo, and I struggle with that.

Overall, though the cap is straight fire. I tried it on, and like a glove- great fit. The flop is right where I like it for a peaky style cap, and the brim is easy to curve to the shape I want it to be. The interior is a nice silky liner, great branding inside, and the Glad Hatter tag was even numbered. I think mine was 32 out of 50. It’s a nice little bonus for the collectors.

For the flannel, they teamed with Divided Flannel Company- which was a great choice. Divided is an up and coming brand that has already established itself well in the flannel/ shirt nerd community. They probably had the resources needed to help make this a success, and it immediately communicated to buyers that they would be getting a great shirt.

The plaid design is what first really drew me to this shirt and cap combo. I am a sucker for any plaid that incorporates black and red as main colors. Adding a golden yellow accent line- just take my money now, man. This is a really clean design too. It’s not a thick plaid which is fairly common right now, so by not being that, it stands out in a good way. They used the yellow in the perfect amount so it actually makes the red pop and stand out even more, without being a distraction. The fit is fantastic. I went with my usual size when ordering a Dixxon or Hales flannel- 2XL- and it was pretty true to size. For me, Hales is pretty roomy, while Dixxon is more fitted. This flannel by Divided was Goldilocks- just right. I love pearl snap buttons on my flannels- an ongoing debate with my wife- and this delivered that. Including snaps on the cuffs- to which I have to say thank you! Dixxon on their snap flannels keeps their button cuffs, and I hate it. I like all snaps or all buttons. That being said, I felt like the red used on the pearl snaps was a little bright compared to the red in the shirt, and it just felt out of place with the vibe of the rest of the shirt. That doesn’t stop this shirt from being an amazing flannel- and at $49.98, it’s a pretty great deal.

Additional Goodies

Along with the shirt and cap, we received a card, a Glad Hatters sticker, and a koi magnetic cap pin. I also purchased some of their Hannya beard oil- which I actually like to use as an aftershave.

Overall, I am really pleased with what I purchased from The Glad Hatters. I think they knocked it out of the park with their first drop, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
